WA Cares Public Website

WA Cares Fund is a new public long-term care benefit in the state of Washington, managed by the state Department of Social and Health Services. Washington's DSHS partnered with The Holding Co. on a multi-year engagement to conduct foundational research, develop the brand, and build on the digital ecosystem for the benefit program. This case study covers the creative development of the WA Care Fund website, to provide general education to the public.

My role: Lead Product Designer

Team: The Holding Co.'s team included an executive creative director who oversaw all of the work with WA Cares/DSHS, a product manager, a design technologist, myself (as lead for the UX and visual design work), one other product designer, a part-time visual designer, and a part-time illustrator. On the client side, we partnered with DSHS as the stakeholders, subject matter experts, and program managers. The web development was conducted by another vendor, who we were able to work closely with during the development and QA processes.

Scope: Design research and persona development, responsive website design (built for Drupal) with detailed, pixel-perfect pages for developer handoff, information architecture, digital design language system based on the WA Cares brand system (designed by THCO's brand team), content strategy, photography selection, creative direction on illustrations and a custom-design icon system, and design guidelines for the development team.
